Amazon’s reveal of its new tablet today and its amazing business story got me curious about its CEO, Jeff Bezos’, life. Aside from finding out that he grew up in my high school district in Miami, his founding of Amazon flies in the face of common thoughts that will get in the way for so many of you:
- I’m too old to do it – Bezos was 30 when he wrote up the business plan for Amazon during a cross country trip. Thirty ain’t old when I’m forty, but it did when I started my first business at the exact same age, a business I still going strong today.
- I’ve got it so good, leaving it all is just selfish of me – Bezos left a high-paying job at a New York hedge fund, where he studied Internet companies and saw the opportunity.
- I’ve got this idea, but I’m the only one who thinks it’s good – “Hello Johnny Investor. I have this great idea to sell books on the Internet.” I can barely imagine, and I’m omnipotent blog man up in here!
You’re not too old. You may have it good, but when was the last time you got upset at someone for achievement? And if you think your idea is good, it’s good.
