John Lennon’s Take on the Aftermath of a Life Leap

by Laura Berger

After we had chucked everything and gone to Costa Rica, everyone looked at us as if to say,  ”You’re brave, I envy you, and I’m so glad I’m not you.”  What an odd juxtaposition.  But there’s a pretty simple reason for it.

There are three types of people in our lives:  1) those who are doing what they’ve always wanted in their core, 2) those who are thinking about it, and 3) those who need more time to identify their burning desire.  We know all three types of these people and love all of them the same.  Likewise, they all love us and care about our outcomes–no one type more than the other.

And because I had taken a Life Leap, they were happy for me.  They saw the magic my change had brought me, but they haven’t lived it.  Everyone is scared of what they don’t understand.  And so they were scared for me.

I had some awkward conversations, for sure.  ”I’m so thrilled, but are you OK?”  ”I think you’re just the best, but do you know what you’re doing?”  And all the while, what I was thinking and what I wanted to say is contained in “Watching the Wheels” by John Lennon.  It’s the quintessential song for someone who has embarked on a new Life Leap.

Click on it and enjoy!  Oh, and the real video is unfortunately not available on the internet.

So do you have a Life Leap song?

Lyrics:

“People say I’m crazy doing what I’m doing, Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin, When I say that I’m o.k. they look at me kind of strange, Surely your not happy now you no longer play the game,

People say I’m lazy dreaming my life away, Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me, When I tell that I’m doing Fine watching shadows on the wall, Don’t you miss the big time boy you’re no longer on the ball?

I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, I really love to watch them roll, No longer riding on the merry-go-round, I just had to let it go,

People asking questions lost in confusion, Well I tell them there’s no problem, Only solutions, Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I’ve lost my mind, I tell them there’s no hurry… I’m just sitting here doing time,

I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, I really love to watch them roll, No longer riding on the merry-go-round, I just had to let it go.”
